An original vintage chromolithograph of Lord Krishna playing the flute beneath a flowering tree, surrounded by gopis, cowherd boys and cows. Printed by the Ravi Varma Press, Malavli, in its original wooden frame.
Full description
This framed vintage print shows Krishna in his classic tribhanga pose, playing the flute with a lotus at his feet. A serpent hood arches behind him, and the tree above is full of parrots, monkeys, a peacock and a butterfly. Gopis wave fly-whisks and a peacock-feather fan on either side. Cowherd boys with drums and a gathering of cows complete the scene. The detailed jewellery, the rich orange and green palette and the printer’s caption at the foot are typical of Ravi Varma Press devotional prints.
The print has the gentle ageing you’d expect from an antique piece, including soft creasing and a natural patina. It is in a simple wooden frame with a hanging ring. It would suit a home temple, a collector’s wall or a heritage-style interior.
